Solver

Solver Excell Add-in Logo

What is the Excel Add-in, Solver?

Solver is a “What-If” analysis tool you can safely add to Excel. Using an “Objective cell” (a cell containing a formula) that is subject to constraints. (This is the tricky part – determining the constraints you are working under) The constraints / limits the values of other formula cells in a workbook. Using a group of cells called “Decision Variables” that are used in computing a formula in the objective or constraint cells. Solver will adjust the values in the decision variable cells to satisfy the limits on constraint cells and provide a result you’ve requested based on the constraints you’re working under.

Solver can determine the maximum or minimum value of one cell by changing other cells in a formula

You can use this add-in to determine capital budgets, expenditures, optimal production – all based on existing constraints.

Solver is available in Western Training Solutions, Excel Level 3. Ask your IT department if you are allowed to download this Excel add-in to your software. If you are, and you’d like to learn more -contact sales@westernts.ca or call or text to get more information on this exciting data tool that can make your life so much easier!

Western Training Solutions - Generational Emoji Interpretation in the Workplace
June 7, 2025
Using Emoji in the Workplace - Helpful or Risky? In today’s diverse workplace, communication styles are as varied as the generations sharing the office. One of the most debated tools in digital conversations? Emojis. While 88% of Canadian Gen Z employees say emojis help them connect with coworkers, older generations often approach them with caution. For Gen Z, a thumbs up might be ironic, while Boomers may interpret it literally—and that’s where things can get messy. In fact, 46% of Canadian workers across all age groups cite “misinterpreting tone or phrasing” as their biggest communication challenge. Emojis, meant to clarify tone, can sometimes do the opposite—especially when used sarcastically or out of context. Still, with Millennials now making up 35% of the workforce and Gen Z close behind, emojis are here to stay. When used thoughtfully, they can bridge generational gaps and add clarity to quick messages. So, should you use emojis at work? Yes—but use them wisely. Know your audience, keep context in mind, and remember: sometimes a word is worth a thousand emojis. Thank you for your interest in training with Western Training Solutions. We look forward to seeing you in class!
